The One Malaysia – Why people still do not understand?
The ‘1Malaysia’ concept cannot be successfully implemented if the Malaysia people do not have strong patriotism spirit. If we do not love our country means we still not ready to make sacrifices for our nation. As we all know that, the government is trying to consolidate ties between people regardless of their races by introducing the concept of 1Malaysia. However, after some period of time people still misunderstood about the intent of this concept. At the same time, irresponsible people try to disseminate wrong information about it.
1Malaysia is actually the political program designed by our Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak, which calling for the government agencies, NGOs and related parties to be more strongly emphasize on ethnic harmony, national unity and efficient governance. It also can be called as a principle in order to guide and built a united and progressive Malaysian nation. The two important principles that should be highlight here are this concept is to inculcate the spirit and values of togetherness and a sense of belonging among Malaysians, regardless of their race, religious and creed.
As I said before that many of Malaysian still does not understand the concept. Why this happened? Although government hardly being promoted this concept through a wide range of activities. We can easily find billboard advertisements displaying the 1Malaysia logo. However, is that enough for Malaysian to fully understand about the real meaning of the concept?
In my opinion, people are confusing the used of word “One” itself. The word “One” can be define as a single unit, not two or more and characterized by unity, undivided and forming a whole. It is true that 1Malaysia is mainly stresses on national unity and ethnic tolerance but it does not means that all people should be serve in equally in all aspects.
It can be said that people are equally in law but it clearly state in Federal Constitution that Malays and Bumiputeras have special right in certain aspects. We cannot easily deny the facts as the Federal Constitution is the fundamental law of the land. I personally suggest that each of Malaysian should have the Federal Constitution. If an issues arise and people can used it as their reference and make situation more clear.
We as Malaysian hope that this vision and mission of 1Malaysia surely will act as a panacea to all the socio-political-economic woes and short coming among Malaysians in strengthening unity to a greater heights in the future.
